27th Year for Future City Competition!
On January 21, we were honored once again to be a part of the 2018-2019 Future City Competition. Teams from all over Kentucky came to compete at Oldham County High School. As always, the display of cities was impressive making it very difficult for judges to pick the winners. We would like to congratulate “Hogo” from East Oldham Middle School and “Lake Havasu City” from Natcher Elementary School in Bowling Green for winning the Structural Engineering Awards!
In light of the many recent disasters such as hurricanes, fires, and tornados that have threatened our cities, students were asked to respond to the challenge of Powering Our Future by designing an electrical grid that can endure and rapidly recuperate from a natural disaster. The designers of “Hogo” and “Lake Havasu City” took special care in considering structural requirements when designing their cities. We were impressed with their efforts, capabilities and creativity.
With 49 middle school teams representing 23 schools and 16 elementary teams representing 8 schools this year, it is very exciting to see the growth of the Future City Competition and the increasing interest in engineering from students!
